chinese praying mantis

A few days ago I found a giant praying mantis that was about 5 inches long. It was brown with a green stripe on its side. I looked it up and I found that it was a Chinese praying mantis.

  2. Hi, Julian. Chinese mantids were first brought from China to the U.S. in 1898 because it was thought they were beneficial insects. After not seeing it for a few days, I saw it yesterday (Sunday) on the large butterfly bush in the back yard. I still haven't seen the male praying mantis in about a week. I hope he's happily eating juicy bugs in preparation for mating season!
