Nature Walk with Pops

Last week me and my grand father pops went on a hike to the nature center near his house. Our favorite place to go is the lake. We didn't see any thing. We didn't see any thing because the frogs, turtles and sometimes snakes were hibernating under the mud.

  1. Do you think there might be wood frogs around the lake? I was thinking there might be some at Lenoir, and it might be worth trying to find some under the leaf litter this winter. We never did go up to Sugar Pond last winter to look for frogsicles. This year we should go for sure.

I found some websites with pictures of great horned owl nests. They don't build their own nests, but they use nests made by other large birds. We should keep looking. The pictures looked like the biggest nests we saw, except with more sticks and twigs. Let's try some more places. I'll be away this coming weekend, but next weekend we could go again, either to the same place or to a different one. If it's cold, we just might have to have hot chocolate again.

  2. After you left on Monday night, I went back to the computer and looked up great horned owl nests in Westchester again, and I found a nature sanctuary in Croton where great horned owls are known to nest. It's farther away than the park we went to last week, but not really really far. We should go.

  3. Karen saw an owl while she was driving in Eastchester yesterday. I know where she was. It is easy to get to and there are nice woods and two lakes to walk around. I think we should check it out. What do you think?
